Prohibited And Hazardous Waste For Skip Bins

Not everything can go into a skip bin. Some waste types are unsafe to transport, unsafe to handle, or need to go through a different disposal process. This page explains the prohibited and hazardous waste items Monbulk Skip Hire cannot accept in our skip bins.

If you are not sure where your waste fits, check our Skip Bin Waste Types page or call Wendy 0428 473 502 before you load the items into the skip.

Why Some Waste Cannot Go In Our Skip Bins

Prohibited and hazardous waste is not the same as normal household rubbish, green waste, builders' waste, soil, concrete or bricks. These materials can create health risks, fire risks, contamination problems, transport issues, or disposal problems once the skip bin leaves your property.

That is why it is important to sort out questionable items before loading the bin, not after it has already been filled.

Prohibited And Hazardous Waste We Cannot Accept

The list below covers the main waste types that are not allowed in our skip bins. This page is a practical guide, but if you are ever unsure about a specific item, call Wendy before booking or loading.

Liquids, Chemicals And Paint

Do not place liquid waste or chemicals in our skip bins.

This includes paint, paint thinners, fuels, oils, solvents, cleaning chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals, and similar hazardous liquids or substances. Even small amounts can contaminate an otherwise acceptable load.

Asbestos And Suspected Asbestos

Asbestos and any material you suspect could contain asbestos must never go into our skip bins.

If you are dealing with old fibro sheeting, insulation, pipe lagging, cement sheet products, or any dusty demolition material you are unsure about, stop and get advice before loading anything.

Gas Bottles, Fire Extinguishers And Pressurised Items

Do not place gas bottles, LPG cylinders, aerosol canisters in bulk, fire extinguishers, or other pressurised containers in our skip bins.

These items can be dangerous during transport and handling and need to be disposed of separately.

Batteries, Tyres And E-Waste

Do not put batteries, car batteries, lithium batteries, tyres, televisions, computers, monitors, printers, fridges or other electrical items into our skip bins unless you have checked with Wendy first.

These items often need separate recycling or disposal and should not be mixed with general skip waste.

Medical, Sanitary And Contaminated Waste

Human or animal waste, contaminated bedding, medical waste, sharps, needles, pharmaceuticals, and similar sanitary or clinical waste are not allowed in our skip bins.

These items need specialised handling and must not be mixed with household, builders' or green waste.

Food Waste, Dead Animals And Putrescible Material

Do not place food waste, rotting organic waste, deceased animals, or other decomposing material in our skip bins.

These materials can create odour, hygiene and handling problems and are not suitable for normal skip bin disposal.

Common Items That Still Need To Be Checked First

Some items catch people out because they do not always look hazardous at first glance.

Please check with Wendy before loading items such as mattresses, wet carpet, containers with poison residue still inside, or mixed renovation waste when you aren't sure whether asbestos is in the pile of waste.

A quick phone call before loading is much easier than having to unload a skip bin later because the wrong material has been mixed through it.

What To Do If You Are Unsure

If you are not sure whether something is allowed, do not guess. Call Wendy before booking or before loading the item into the skip bin.

For accepted waste categories, you can also compare our Light Domestic Waste, Garden & Green Waste, Builders Waste Skip Bin Hire, and full Skip Bin Waste Types page to help work out what belongs where.

If a material is prohibited or hazardous, it will need to go to the correct council, recycling or approved disposal option instead of a standard skip bin.
