Can I mix green waste into Light General Waste & Builders Waste skip bins?
Most skips are placed on private property, such as driveways or front yards. If you need an on-street placement, you will require a council permit. The costs vary depending on your location. Call Wendy, and she will talk you through the safest option.
Yes, Green Waste is fine in Light General Waste & Builders General Waste skip bins.
The biggest causes of people having to pay additional fees are simple:
They hire the wrong waste category,
They order a skip bin for light general waste, then load bricks, concrete, etc, which increases the weight of the skip. These items aren't allowed in light waste skips.
Putting a mattress, fire extinguishers, gas bottles, etc., into the skip, these items all have additional fees which vary in price, between the transfer stations' fees.
Call Wendy before booking to confirm the correct waste category and avoid surprises.
Can I put Bricks, Concrete, and Dirt, etc., in the
Domestic General Waste Skip Bin?
No, concrete, dirt, bricks, pavers, tiles, etc., are only allowed in:
Builders General Waste - up to 10% of the load may be dirt, concrete, bricks, tiles, etc.
100% Mixed Heavy Recyclable Materials skip bins, where 100% of the load is made up of concrete, bricks, soil, rocks, stones, or dry sand, in any combinations etc.
How far above the top of the bin can we go?
The load must not exceed the top edge of the skip bin (water level). If the load exceeds the top edge, it is illegal for us to transport it, and we may face heavy fines and loss of points on our license.
Why do we have to pay extra for a mattress and bed bases, tyres, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, ect.?
We don't set the rules for disposing of certain items, such as mattresses, bed bases, tyres, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, paint, poisons, etc.
The state government, landfill sites, and transfer stations all charge fees, which we ultimately pay when we dispose of the waste. Not all of these items are accepted, such as: poisons, while paint collection at transfer stations is for domestic quantities, for people to dispose of, it's not for us.
We need to collect the money to pay for the responsible disposal of these items. That's why we charge these fees, which are out of our control. We prefer not to handle these items.
What happens if the bin goes overweight
If the skip goes overweight (which is uncommon), it is a simple process. We get a weighbridge receipt for the load showing the weight, and then you pay an additional fee for every 100kg you exceed the weight limit by.
If you have grossly exceeded the weight limit, or if we collect the skip and realise it's significantly over the limit. We will call you to discuss the approximate additional fee. We can also offer you the alternatives you have.
