How We Work Out Skip Bin Hire Prices for the Yarra Ranges and Yarra Valley

Our skip bin hire prices are worked out using a few main factors:

• Skip bin size — larger bins cost more because they hold more waste.

• Waste category — lighter waste, green waste, renovation waste and heavy materials are all charged differently.

• Expected load weight — disposal fees are usually charged to us by the tonne.

• Transfer station charges — the truck is weighed before and after tipping, and we are charged for the weight of the waste removed. If a load is light, we also incur a minimum-weight fee regardless.

• Truck, labour and service costs — delivery, collection, fuel, time, truck and bin payments and handling are all part of the final price.

This is why two skip bins of the same size can have different prices if they are being used for different waste types. A bin full of household junk is very different from a builder's or green waste skip bin, or even compared to a bin full of soil, concrete, bricks or rubble.

Cut green waste down so it compacts well and you can fit more in. Do not mix in general rubbish, timber, soil, or heavy rubble, or the load may be reclassified and the price will change.

Builders General Waste suits mixed loads from renovations, strip-outs, and heavier property clean-ups. It can include domestic general waste, green waste, and building materials such as timber, plaster and tiles.

Heavy materials such as concrete, dirt, bricks, tiles and rocks are limited to 10% of the bin’s volume in this category. If your load contains more than that, you will need one of our heavy material skip bin options instead.

Heavy Recyclable Skip Bin Prices

We offer dedicated skip bins for 100% loads of a single heavy recyclable material such as soil, dirt, concrete, bricks, rocks, stones or rubble.

These materials must not be mixed together in this category. Each skip bin is for one waste type only, such as soil only, concrete only, or bricks only.

Keeping the load separated helps avoid contamination and makes recycling easier and more efficient.

We keep our skip bin hire prices as clear as possible. Most clean-ups are covered by our standard prices, but some items and situations attract additional disposal or service charges. We list these below so you can book with a clearer idea of the total cost and avoid surprises.

• Excess weight over the included limit: $40 per 100 kg

• Car tyres: $50 each

• 4x4 tyres: $85 each

• Mattresses: $90 each

• Gas bottles 9 kg or less: $25 each

• Gas bottles over 9 kg: $35 each

• Fire extinguishers: $20 each

• On-road council permits: price varies depending on the local council

• Dry run fee if we cannot deliver or collect your skip bin due to blocked access: $120

• Out-of-area service fee: price varies depending on distance and location

Green waste tips

• Cut branches, prunings, and green waste into smaller pieces. It compacts better and you fit more in.

• Use the walk-in door to step in and compact green waste safely as you load.

Domestic General Waste and Builders Waste Tips

• If you have some green waste, load it first. The rest of the load helps compact it down.

• Load steel and metal last. That helps us keep it separate for recycling at the transfer station.

Rain and excess weight tips

• If rain is likely, bag soft items like clothing, sheets, blankets, and pillows, etc. Wet fabric adds weight fast.

• Each corner of the bin has a drain hole. Do not block them. Clear drain holes let water escape and reduce the risk of excess weight charges.

• Bean bag balls must go in a sealed bag or box. Otherwise, they can escape through drain holes and end up on the road.

• If you have a tarp, throw it over the skip. We'll remove the tarp on collection and fold it for you.
