Why Choosing The Right Waste Type Matters
Not all skip bin waste categories are priced or handled in the same way. Choosing the correct waste category from the start helps you book the right skip bin for the job, avoiding mix-ups, and keeps your clean-up moving without delays.
If you are also not sure how much rubbish, green waste, soil or rubble you have, our skip bin sizes and dimensions page will help you compare the 2m³, 3m³, 4m³ and 6m³ skip bins before you book.
Garden & Green Waste Skip Bins
Garden and green waste skip bins are ideal for pruning jobs, hedge trimming, clearing fallen branches, cleaning up around fence lines, and getting on top of the piles of green waste that slowly build up around homes, acreages and small rural properties.
Allowed: branches, leaves, shrubs, bark, weeds, prunings and general green waste.
Not allowed: soil, rocks, concrete, treated timber, plastic, wire, general rubbish or mixed waste.
Weight limits apply according to the skip size.

Light Domestic General Waste Skip Bins
Light domestic waste skip bins are the best fit for most household clean-ups. If your garage is full of old furniture, the spare room has become a storage dump, or the shed is packed with things you have been meaning to throw out for years, this is usually the right waste type to start with.
Allowed: household junk, furniture, boxes, toys, clothing, old cupboards, general clutter and mixed light rubbish.
Not allowed: concrete, soil, bricks, pavers, sand and other heavy recyclable materials.
Weight limits apply according to the size of the skip.

Builders General Waste Skip Bins
Builders waste skip bins suit renovation and repair jobs where most of the load is lighter mixed waste, with only a small amount of heavy recyclable material included. This category is often the right choice for bathroom strip-outs, kitchen updates, old fencing, floor coverings, plaster, timber offcuts and general renovation debris.
Allowed: mixed renovation waste, timber, plaster, carpet, cabinetry, packaging and up to 10% heavy recyclable material such as bricks, concrete, pavers or soil.
Not allowed: full heavy loads that should go into a dedicated heavy recyclable, soil, concrete or brick skip.
Weight limits apply based on the selected skip size.

Heavy Recyclable Materials Skip Bins
Mixed heavy recyclable waste skip bins are for loads made up mainly of heavy materials. If you are pulling up an old path, demolishing a small slab, removing pavers, digging out clay or cleaning up rubble from around the yard, this is usually the right category.
Allowed: mixed loads of concrete, bricks, pavers, soil, clay, rocks and similar heavy recyclable materials.
Not allowed: household junk, green waste, timber, plaster, furniture or mixed general rubbish.
Available in 2m³ and 3m³ skip bins only.

Soil, Concrete, Bricks and Pavers
Some heavy materials are better booked into their own dedicated skip category, especially when the load is clean and not mixed with other waste. Booking the correct waste type the first time is usually the easier and better-value option.
Remember, loads exceeding the top of the rim are overloaded and cannot be transported for legal and safety reasons.
Use 100% soil, dirt or clay skip bins for clean soil-only loads.
Use 100% concrete skip bins for clean concrete-only loads.
Use skips for bricks & pavers for brick and paver loads.
These heavy types of waste are only available in 2m³ and 3m³ skip bins only.
